Some SciFi Tech from the HSO Universe (HSO=Human Space Organization)

This is just some stuff that I made up. I change my ideas and explainations often, and use different ones for different purposes, or just different names. I hope you find this interesting. It is presented almost as if it were a list of facts about the current state of some society.

SCIENCE

1. Antimatter
For each type of particle there is an anti-particle with oposite but equal charge, equal size, equal mass. Antiparticles to matter are called anti-matter, such as positrons (anti-electrons), and anti-protons. When a particle and antiparticle meet, they annihilate each other (common phrase :-) ) and release all of the energy held in their mass (which Einstein says is equal to mass times the speed of light squared in his equation E=MC^2). Some particles are their own antiparticle, such as photons. When an electron and a positron meet, they both are destroyed and release two photons of energy.

2. Zero-Point Energy (ZPE) or Vacume Energy
Zero-Point Energy (ZPE), also known as Vacume Energy, exists due to the Quantum Uncertainty Principle which prohibits the knowledge of both speed and location, while obviously both are known if there is nothing present. ZPE has many effects including the creation of virtual particles in pairs, one matter, one antimatter, that apear briefly and then disapear when they re-collide. As yet, no one has made a device which can extract large amounts of energy from ZPE, which is virtually the Holy Grail of energy production. ZPE is also the basis of the ZPE Density and Unified Physics Theory.

3. ZPE Density and Unified Physics Theory (ZeDUP Theory)
The ZeDUP Theory has evolved over the years from a simple idea about the nature of space to a mostly unifying theory that explains many interactions in Quantum Mechanics and normal physics. The basic part of the ZeDUP Theory is the ZPE Density theory dealing with spacial structure, ZPE, and levels of space from Null Space to hypospace to normal space and to hyperspace. The idea is that levels of space separate from each other based on energy density, which is

4. Negative Energy and Chill Waves
Negative Energy is an area of space with less energy than absolute zero, which is determined by the ZPE density (zd) of the containing layer of space (0K or -273 degrees Celcius/Centagrade in normal space (1 zd or 100% zd) ). Waves of negative energy are also called chill waves since they can be applied to reduce the average kinetic energy, the temperature, of an object. Chill Waves are produced using ZPE Synthesizers.

5. Vacume Matter -- Hypothetical
Vacume Matter is the hypothetical idea of creating matter out of ZPE since matter and energy are interchangeable and energy can be extracted from ZPE. Vacume Matter would eliminate the need to carry propellant on spacecraft since it could be created on demand. Some scientists think that it may be possible to create a temporary sort of Vacume Energy using specalized ZPE synthesizers that will be able to propell the craft using energy from a reactor and then the Vacume Matter will return to the ZPE (leaving no exhaust, maybe an energy trail though). However, this is just a theory, especially since there is no current large-scale means for extracting ZPE.

TECHNOLOGY

1. Fusion Furnace
The Fusion Furnace uses small local fusion reactions in small tubes that, individually or in small groups, can be easily controlled and activated/deactivated for power, in heat extraction tubes, or for thrust via a direct rocket or an RTS system.

2. Remote Thrust System (RTS)
An RTS is used for combining propulsion and maneuvering together into one system that allows the thrust generation systems (which can easily double for power generation) to be centralized, safer on the inside of the ship, and easier to repair/maintain. The system allows for more mobile ships that have varying maneuvering/propulsion abilities based on configuration and need.

3. Null-Shift Drive
The mechanism used for Faster-Than-Light (FTL) travel. This system is based on the complex ZPE Density and Unified Physics Theory. It pushes the ship out in a cone formation to less dense space (hypospace, not hyperspace as in many SciFi universes) where the ship can move faster. Some drives may even be able to skip in and out of Null Space (sometimes called Zero Space or less commonly NilOmniSpace) for even greater effective but virtual velocity. The Shift Cone is formed by either a swirling mix of special plasma, easily controlled by electromagnetic means, or in later years by Photon Fields, to push out the outer parts of the ship first and then the inner parts. This has two effects. First, it allows the ship to be shifted from the outside gradually rather than all at once by a pervasive field, and second, it uses the inner layers to hold out the outer layers so that the ship is held in hypospace by the center of the ship, reducing the energy needed to maintain the drive in operation.

4. Super-Cooled heat disipating armor
To defend against lasers, which heat up objects rapidly causing them to explode or melt, the ships hull is made of a thick layer of material that disipates heat rapidly and is cooled by super-coolant. The super-coolant is sometimes liquid hydrogen or liquid nitrogen, and in later years it is ZPE cooled liquids, or ZPE chill waves (negative energy) directly.

5. Vapor Armor (also Absorbant or Asimilative Armor)
Vapor Armor is a coating on the ship that absorbs heat energy and evaporates, saving the ship from damage by the heat. In some systems, the ship can continually extrude a liquid that solidifies in damaged areas of the armor to regenerate it.

6. Plasma ion-electromagnetic (PIE) Deflector field
A PIE Deflector is used to defend the ship against incoming projectiles, small particles at high velocity, some protection against atmospheres, and minimal protection from laser. It uses electromagnetic energy to deflect particles and objects. The field ionizes small particles so that they can be repelled magnetically, and it can be charged with plasma to block and incinerate projectiles, and absorb a small portion of laser energy.

7. Matter/Anti-Matter (MAM) Reactor
A MAM Reactor mixes matter and anti-matter in a highly controlled environment to reap energy from the resulting expolsion that releases 100% of the energy contained in the mass (compared to 1-3% for nuclear reactions). These reactors are not the Holy Grail that they apear to be however. natural anti-matter is rare and synthetic Antimatter is expensive, being produced in huge factories from more conventional power sources such as fusion and solar power. Holding anti-matter is dangerous as well because if it escapes, it could blow up the entire ship and everything around it. Its main benifit is providing a lot of power quickly in a small space without taking up much room. It is sometimes used in MAM Burst Overdrives that inject anti-matter into the exhaust of a fusion rocket to gain a momentary major burst of acceleration. Of course, it is also used in weapons due to its obvious destructive powerers.

8. MAM Laser
MAM Laser generates a high-powered laser beam quickly by a MAM reaction in the generation tube. It is used to fire high powered laser bursts at targets, and not often used in manufacturing where more precise and continuous lasers are needed.

9. ZPE Synthesizer
A ZPE Synthesizer uses complex controlled reactions with Zero Point Energy (ZPE) (also called Vacume Energy) to produce special effects or particles such as Shift-Inducing plasma in Null-Shift FTL Drives and Containment particles used in Photonic Fields. (Dictionary: ZPE Synthesizers utilize complex interactions with ZPE to produce particles or regions of space with special properties.)

10. ZPE Containment Field
A ZPE Containment Field uses particles generated in a special ZPE Synthesizer which connects specialized spacial properties to particles such as photons (Photonic/Optical linkage) to contain matter and energy in a field (often called a Photon Field if photons are used as the link particle). These fields must be controlled in certain ways, they are not as versatile as popular science fiction may lead many to believe, but they do help in such applicatoins as new shielding techniques and faster, more energy-efficient Null-Shift drives.

11. Medium Direction Field (MDF)
The idea behind Medium Direction Fields is that craft in a meduim such as air or water have better, more efficient manuevering ability. The MDF uses new ZPE Containment Field technology and complex interactions with ZPE, ZPE Density and Unified Physics Theory laws, electromagnetic energy, and kinetic laws to allow the ship to maneuver through the field as if in a medium of variable density. This technique provides amazing maneuverability, but is rather inneficient since it leaks containment particles and energy all over the place and requires the main rockets to be firing to overcome drag produced by the medium. It is mostly used for short durations where quick maneuvers are necessary. Scientists are constantly at work inventing new ways to improve this new technology.

12. Agregate Laser (Photon Field Laser)
An Agregate Laser uses ZPE Containment field technology to hold a laser beam together to pund holes into targets and resist dissipation by defense mechanisms. Since the beam of laser is obviously made out of photons (particles of light) and since photons are used to link containment particles, the Agregate Laser is in effect a coherant Photonic force field and so is often called Photon Field Laser or Photonic Laser (which at first sounds redundant).

13. Agregate Scanning Technology
Agregate scanning technology simply uses ZPE Containment Fields linked to various forms of electromagnetic energy waves to create new scanning devices and techniques.

14. Agregate Holography
Agregate Holography is a new fad and important emerging technology made possible by Photonic Fields. Holograms are projections of light that form 3-Dimensional pictures and have been around for years, but since photons can now be used to make photon fields, the holograms are at last tangible, they block matter from passing through and can be given various textures by embeding various particles. New Agregate holography rooms are outfitted with photonic field hologram projecters and various particle dusts to synthesize tangible virtual worlds. They also have the standard speakers, motion trackers, odor machines, etc. that have been around for years as well.

15. Agregate/Photonic Shielding
Agregate Shielding uses Photonic Fields produced from special ZPE Synthesizers to project a field around an object or vessel to protect it from various dangers including projectiles, energy weapons, and high speed particles that can be encountered during FTL travel (actually the particles' gravitational mass shadows are encountered if a vessel uses the Null-Shift Drive for FTL travel since that drive shifts the ship out of normal space where the particles are).

16. Alcubierre/Bubble/Warp Drive
The Alcubierre Warp Bubble was invented in the Twentieth Century by a scientist named Miguel Alcubierre. This device moves space around a ship faster than light, bypassing the laws that prohibit matter from FTL motion since the ship doesn't move. This is accomplished by a massive graviton field in front of the ship to contract space and an exotic matter (negative matter/energy) field behind the ship to expand space. Humans do not use this drive since it requires too much energy and also may require an anti-gravity field around the ship, which Humans cannot produce, however, the nearly exterminated Mrral race is widely thought to use them. (Obviously the Mrral had their own scientists invent them, and it can really only be said that Alcubierre theorized about such technology.)

17. Shift Tubes
Shift Tubes are cylindrical Null-Shifted Agregate energy tunnels in hypospace through which energy, objects, and Containment fields can travel faster-than-light. They can be used in scanning, target locks (along with with Agregate Energy Film), remote teleportation, and tractor beams (again w/ AEF). They are formed by first creating a hoop of Null-Shifted agregate energy and then channeling more through it that combines with the first hoop and continually expands the tube until the supply is halted and often spread out to the side to allow passage of matter and energy. The reverse is used to remove the tube and reclaim much of its energy. Depending on the technique used, Shift Tubes may extend faster than light, or they may be limited to light speed. Currently only advanced researchers and secret military opperations have FTL Shift Tubes, but permanent normal Shift Tubes are being constructed between planets and various other locations to carry communication faster, and maybe even teleport objects and people.

18. Agregate Energy Film (AEF)
AEF is ZPE Containment field energy that coats an object providing a handle which, depending on density and srength, can be used for tracking or for manipulation. AEF is used with Shift Tubes for target locks, teleportation, and for nanotechnology.

19. Teleporters
Teleporters have been around in various forms for a long time. Back in the Twentieth Century some people thought that they could use Quantum Entanglement to send the properties of one object a great distance to another object. More recent attempts have simply been focusing on moving an object quickly though walls and other obstructions, for example, sending cargo from a warehouse on the surface of a planet to the cargo hold of an orbitting ship. Techniques that use Null-Shift technology have been around for a while but earlier forms required elaborate sending and recieving mechanisms that had large electromagnetic dishes and which could be interrupted by electromagnetic interfearance, common in the atmospheres of many planets. Modern teleporters use a Shift Tube to remotely lock on to and then teleport objects and even people. An AEF is used to attach to the object and then a complex Agregate Energy structure is wrapped around the object and onto a spindle or "beam" as it is commonly called (due to the Twentieth Century Science Fiction 2D TV show Star Trek, the phrase "beam me up Scotty" is popular again, despite the fact that scientists call it a teleport spindle, not a beam).
